How many points was that???

My morning routine does not vary very much.  Wake up, shower, get dressed and ready, leave the house, stop at Dunkin' Donuts, get to work (in as little time as possible).  The past few days, I've grabbed an egg white veggie flatbread sandwich, which is part of the whole "Better for you menu" at Dunkin'.  Well, in all honesty, they are terrible.  The flatbread always tastes like it's been sitting in a freezer for a while, and all they did was pop it into a toaster.  Seriously.  It's like eating a cardboard hockey puck.

This morning, I varied my routine.  Instead of getting the flatbread, I decided to go all out and get a "Reduced fat blueberry Muffin."  This, too, is on the better for you menu, so I figured it would still be a decent option.  As usual, when I got to work, I looked up the Nutrition Facts, which are conveniently posted on the Dunkin' Donuts website.  Here's what I found:

Reduced Fat Blueberry Muffin
  • Fat:  11g
  • Carbohydrates:  81g
  • Dietary Fiber:  2g
  • Protein:  7g
  • WEIGHT WATCHER POINTS PLUS:  12
Regular Blueberry Muffin
  • Fat:  16g
  • Carbohydrates:  83g
  • Dietary Fiber:  2g
  • Protein:  7g
  • WEIGHT WATCHER POINTS PLUS:  14

What do YOU think about that???  I spent 12 points on breakfast!  (Really, I spent 14, because I needed to count in my coffee, as well).  SERIOUSLY!  That is NOT low fat!  I suppose that's why Dunkin' Donuts calls it "Reduced Fat" ..... Because technically, the fat IS reduced.  But it certainly isn't low!  I think next time I want to vary my routine, I'll just get a donut!  Those, at least, are fewer Points Plus.

I've taken the liberty of calculating out a few of the Dunkin' Donuts Points Plus values for your viewing pleasure.  Enjoy!

  1. wow thanks for posting that!! i CANT believe the points plus counts. i guess my stomach looks like a sausage-egg-cheese-bagel sandwich because i ate so many of them and they're more than half of a normal person's daily points?!?!?

i lived on reduced fat blueberry muffins for breakfast for the past year and they're not even GOOD. they're dry and bland... and the nutritious value is almost identical to a delicious one?!

im also really happy you posted this because i haven't been counting my ice coffees :( uh oh! on the flip side, i'm happy to see munchkins would be a fun snack!
